Born and raised in Ethiopia, Gerawork Mengistu dreamt of providing a brighter future for his family. With unwavering determination, he set forth on a journey to a foreign land, seeking better opportunities and promise of a more secure life for his two children and his wife who migrated from Eastern Europe. The both of them decided to pursue a career at the University of Minnesota helping the next generation of students.

Gerawork's aspirations met with an unexpected and tragic twist when he became victim of a hit-and-run accident while mowing his own lawn on a Saturday morning. The accident left him with severe injuries both physical and emotional [Brain surgery, Leg surgery, and more]. It was a harrowing moment that could have broken his spirit, but Gerawork's resilience shone through leaving him alive.

Through Gerawork's fundraiser, critical funds will be raised to cover medical expenses strictly to help fund Gerawork's medical expenses and provide Financial Support that otherwise would be tough to come by. The outpouring of support from individuals and organizations alike showcases the power of collective empathy and belief that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those facing adversity.
