The team at the Green Dolphin - Pete, Marsha, Victor, and Olivia, along with the extended Schmidt family - are asking for your support to help the Hope Town Primary Parent Teacher Association. Founded at its current location in 1893, the school has always been the center of the Upalong neighborhood and in many ways the town, providing young families an on-island place to send their kids and creating a long lasting sense of community to the thousands of alumni. The school is also our neighbor.
Like much of the Abacos it was devastated during Hurricane Dorian, separating families as young parents are forced to choose between rebuilding their town or seeing their children off to new schools in Nassau or beyond. Some MAJOR initiatives are already underway rebuilding the physical structure in the coming months. If you feel a contribution to those initiatives makes more sense for you, be sure to visit www.hopetownunited.org to participate in that effort instead.
Our goal here is to provide spending money directly to the school's parent-teacher association (PTA), overseen by the principal Justin Higgs and the PTA board, allowing them to buy items quickly and at their discretion. Everything from a playground and community garden, to computers and desks, to textbooks and chalkboards.
The Schmidt's will gather all donations into our US account and transfer them directly to the school's Bahamian PTA account, overseen by Justin. We've known Justin for years, and since post-Dorian day 1 he has been working tirelessly to cleanup the island and school. We have absolute faith that all funds collected here will be dedicated 100% to recreating the school's vibrancy, cheerfulness, and positive spirit for the many generations of young Hope Town families to come.
And, as a way of thank you, you can all expect an invitation to another round of world-famous Green Dolphin dinners on the back porch (even if slightly renovated in its own right)!!
