Hope Village Expansion
Tax deductible
Rogue Retreat's Hope Village program is the first tiny house transitional community for the homelessness in Southern Oregon that opened in October of 2017. Hope Village provides shelter that is safe, sanitary, gated and supervised to homeless men, women and couples in a community setting of attractive, well designed and insulated tiny house duplex units. Required weekly case management helps enables the residents to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness to help them work on permanent ways to get off the streets, address their individual barriers and transition back into society. Villagers live in a shared community environment. They share the duties of keeping the Village clean and orderly and they observe self-governing behavioral rules, such as no stealing, fighting, or drug or alcohol use on the premises. They are required to contribute to the operation of the Village through a shared monthly fee and Village duties such as cleaning the kitchen, bathroom and shower trailers, gardening, kennel duty or shifts at the host desk. Villagers are monitored by their own Village Council, as well as supervised by Rogue Retreat case management staff.
Homelessness has increased in Jackson County by over 15% from 2017 to 2018. Most of these individuals are our communities most vulnerable that have been priced out of the rental market. On July 5th, 2018 the Medford City Council gave their unanimous approval for the expansion of Hope Village. Rogue Retreat will now be adding 16 new units to Hope Village (for a total of 30 units) and finishing the beautification of the property.
Our goal is to make Hope Village into the model tiny house transitional community for the homeless that provides both dignity and hope to those that we serve. Please join us in creating opportunities for the homeless to have hope.
