Family & friends, 2024 is about to end & we have received some not so great news.
In April of this year I attended my annual physical exam. I asked my doctor to run a PSA (prostate antigen test) so that I could get a snap shot of where my numbers were at.
My father had just been through prostate cancer & I wanted to be proactive.
My PSA came back alarmingly high for my age. My primary care physician asked if we could repeat it in 3 months. Time got away from us as we enrolled Brooklyn in her first year of public school. Fast forward six months later & I finally listened to my wife & retested. My PSA had risen again.
In between all of this I was experiencing some symptoms but tried my hardest to put it on the back burner to provide for us as a family. A week later in November my primary care physician retested my PSA & again it had risen. This time more sharply.
I finally saw my urologist this week after a bit of a wait time & he is almost certain it is prostate cancer.
There is no convenient time to get this possible diagnosis. But it’s even more gut wrenching to get this news when we are so close to our green cards being processed in 2.5 years. We have waited almost 10 years up until this point. This means that we cannot tap into any government funding or help. It also means that we kinda fall through the cracks when it comes to the affordability of medical care in this country.
If you know anything about our little family you would know that this is a total gut punch for so many reasons.
I need to go for an MRI & a biopsy scheduled for 2nd of January, 2025. If we can’t come up with the money, I can’t go. Once I have the results from this biopsy my doctor will tell us the way forward. For now we foresee a long hard road ahead in terms of finances.
We ask that you share this campaign with your family & friends in the hopes that we can raise enough money for the biopsy, testing as well as for my care & treatment of possible prostate cancer.
I know there will be many questions going forward but we don’t have answers at this point. We are taking one day at a time & still digesting this news.
If you find it in your heart to give to this cause, please do. We need a village now more than ever.
Please pray for us as a family. We have yet to tell Brooklyn anything so if you see us out & about please know that Brooklyn is none the wiser. She has enough to carry, we will tell her in due time.
