Life can be unpredictable. Things don’t always go the way you plan. On October 25, 2012 our plans for the future started to change. We had just gotten married, and five weeks later our world was turned upside down. We learned quickly how much we both meant to each other. Who would have thought that “in sickness and in health” would be tested so soon after our wedding. After almost a year of experiencing abdominal pain I had exploratory surgery on October 25, 2012. I woke up from the surgery only to find out that I had cancer. So many questions came up and sometimes you don’t get all of them answered. After two weeks of waiting for my pathology report we found out it was ovarian cancer.
We decided that MD Anderson in Houston, Texas would be the best place for me to receive treatment. About a month after being diagnosed I had my first appointment at MD Anderson. There I met my oncologist, had blood work drawn, and many scans ran. After all the tests were ran and reports were looked over I found out that I had stage 3 ovarian cancer. Here I was a 25 year old newlywed that had plans for our future. After my first visit my plans changed. I received my first of nine rounds of chemo with reductive surgery /partial hysterectomy after three rounds. Luckily before surgery we were able to do egg retrieval so we could freeze our embryos. Our goal was always have a family of our own, but we had no idea what all we would have to do to have a family of our own.
In August 2013 I was declared cancer free! I continued to go to MD Anderson every 3 months for scans, blood work, and doctor’s visit. My visit in April 2014 went great! My Ca125 (tumor marker) was 9.6 and my scans showed no evidence of disease. That next month our world was turned upside down again. I started having severe abdominal pain again along with nausea and vomiting. I spent 12 days at our local hospital before being transferred to MD Anderson by ambulance. I spent a total of 70 days in the hospital and had two surgeries. I had a blockage that required the first surgery and that’s when the doctors found out my cancer had returned. The second surgery involved me getting a g-tube along with a colostomy. I am currently halfway through my 6 rounds of chemo. After I finish my 6 rounds of chemo we will sit down with my doctor and discuss the next plan.
With my cancer returning less than a year later, and being hard to detect we have decided we would like to have children sooner than later. Like I said before life can be unpredictable. No one knows what the future will hold or how long we have on this Earth. The one thing I do know is that I want to have a family with my husband and I want to see our children grow up. Whether I have 5 years left or 50 years I want to be able to have a family. Unfortunately with my cancer returning so soon and the way things have unraveled we have decided it would not be best for me to carry our children. Our only option of having children of our own is to have a surrogate to carry our children. Finding a surrogate is not an easy or cheap process. Our goal is to have kids as soon as we can. Once we have the money we will be able to move forward with the surrogate process. Please help us complete our family by helping us reach our goal. Share with friends and family! Every dollar we raise will help us get closer to having kids sooner than later. If you are unable to donate please keep me and my family in your prayers. May God bless you and thank you for your support!
