We need your help! On March 5th, 2020, the Hope Zoo Preservation Foundation was closed due to the ongoing COVID19 global pandemic. As a non-profit organization, we depend heavily on revenue from guest admission passes, events, and tours to meet our daily financial needs to feed our animals and rehabilitate rescued native wildlife.
Despite being closed for nearly two months now, our amazing zookeepers and staff have continued to work everyday to feed our animals and ensure they are receiving the same excellent care they always have. However, this has put immense strain on our emergency funds to keep the zoo running.
With the help of your generous donations, you can provide us with funds needed to feed our animals and to treat/medicate rescued native wildlife currently being rehabilitated at our facility.
We understand this is an incredibly tough time for everyone worldwide. But any donation ($5, $10, $20 etc) will be incredibly helpful and we’ll be forever grateful. Bless up!
Your donations will directly support:
· Feed & vet care for our zoo animals:
Happy, healthy animals is our top priority, please help us in providing support for our collection of over 1,000 animals, including 400 birds (56 species), 75 mammals (including lions, zebras, capuchins, squirrel monkeys, etc.), and over 525 reptiles (25 species).
· Wildlife Rescue & Rehab:
Besides our zoo collection, we act as a wildlife sanctuary here in Jamaica, collaborating with our government colleagues at the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) to rescue native species (Jamican owls, barn owls, yellowbill parrots, American crocodiles, etc). Many of these animals are injured or orphaned and remain in our care for some time before being released back into the wild, while others with permanent injuries are given a new forever home here at Hope Zoo.
· Headstart Program for the Critically Endangered Jamaican Iguana:
Excitingly, we are home to the headstart program for the Critically Endangered Jamaican iguana—housing over 300 juvenile iguanas which have been collected from the wild and raised at our zoo for 4-6 years before being reintroduced back into the wild. Since the Jamaican iguana was rediscovered from extinction in 1990, the Hope Zoo has been one of the essential components ensuring the survival and recovery of this severely threatened species.
