Mariposa Bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places. It spans the deep concrete LA River between Burbank and Griffith Park and provides the only access for hikers and the hundreds of horses stabled in Burbank, Glendale and the Los Angeles Equestrian Center to connect from the north side to the 55 miles of trails in Griffith Park’s urban wilderness.
This area is also a Habitat Corridor on the banks of the LA River, the northern rim of Griffith Park & the surrounding neighborhoods. It provides essential habitat connections and nesting sites for migratory birds, & contains habitat for sensitive species.
Now Habitat and safe equestrian access to Griffith Park via the Mariposa Bridge are being threatened by a 5-story condo development, so we have filed a Lawsuit against the City of Burbank to STOP it!
It is just feet from this 1939 swinging bridge on a very narrow road.
We believe the City did NOT follow the State-mandated requirements of CA State Housing Bill SB35 when they approved building condos at 910 S. Mariposa in Burbank.
We believe if they had followed the law, they would not have approved it.
We want a judge to rule on this.
