Heindel Family Palisades Fire Relief Fund

So many heartbreaking stories in the Palisades right now. Unfortunately this one hits close to home as it’s my best friend of 48 years who still lives on our childhood street, next door to her parents. Two generations of one Palisades family with 50 years living on Edgar Street, both of their houses, gone, destroyed by the fire instantly. They have lost everything.

It’s hard to ask for help, but this family is going to need it. Any funds raised will help them as they navigate the staggering loss of normalcy. It’s a terrifying undertaking for everyone affected and I know that this family will be the first to jump in to help all of the Palisades recover from this disaster. That’s just who they are.

Michael Horusicky, Sr. & his wife Jana brought their children to the United States after escaping from Czechoslovakia following the 1968 Soviet invasion. Their daughter Andrea was born soon after in Santa Monica. Michael is a retired master mason who kept his Palisades-based construction company flourishing for over 40 years. Jana worked at the VA Hospital in Westwood for 23 years as a lab technologist. When the opportunity arose, their daughter Andrea and her husband Jason Heindel jumped at the chance to live right next door to her parents so they could raise their children, Jakob (17) and Misha (15) on the same block where Andrea had spent her childhood. They even built a secret garden passage so the kids could sneak over to their grandparents’ house. Jakob and Misha attended Marquez School (destroyed) and now Pali High (closed). This family is a pillar of the Palisades community and especially of Edgar Street and they need our help.
