Help with Carolyn's Hospice and End of Life Care

Our precious mother, Carolyn Hester, has been fighting a nearly decade-long battle that is often too familiar to everyone today - the battle with cancer.

Anyone blessed to have shared moments with our mom knows the strength and depth of her heart and compassion. From an early age, Carolyn felt a pull to a higher calling of caring for people. She became a Registered Nurse and worked on the Oncology floor of Head & Neck at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. She then became an adult and pediatric home care nurse until she retired.

If Carolyn’s love and compassion for her family and those in need aren’t enough of a blessing, Carolyn was born with a singing voice many of us can only dream of having. Carolyn adopted the stage name Stacey Cane and became a professional recording artist at the young age of 16. In 1965 under the Jubilee Record Label, she recorded the popular songs “Who Are You” and “Funny Face,” a record that earned a spot on the Top 100 chart.

In 2013, Carolyn’s life took a sudden, unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Stage 2 HER2 Positive H2 Negative Breast Cancer. Carolyn immediately underwent a lumpectomy and 35 rounds of radiation and, as a result, went into remission for five years. Unfortunately, in 2018, the cancer returned in the form of Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer in her lymph system and has now become systemic.

Our mom continues to embrace this journey with courage and grace and with a song and a smile. Sadly, after nearly ten years of battling, it is time to stop treatment as they are no longer working. Our mother is now on hospice, and we, along with family and friends, are at her side walking her home and traveling the end-of-life journey.
