Hospice Care for Mona Odeh
Donation protected
On October 16, my mother, Mona, was admitted to the ICU for the second time in two years due to her chronic lung disease (COPD) and failing liver (cirrhosis). Although she has stabilized since then, we have been told by doctors and nurses that she is nearing the end of her life, and is spending the rest of her time at home in hospice care.
My father isn't someone who asks for help easily, so I wanted to create this GoFundMe for him. He and I both have a very limited amount of leave time available, and we are about to be inundated with medical bills and debt, not including the in-home nursing care we will have to get shortly. The purposes of this fundraiser is to help ease the financial stress that has already come from this situation, and pad the inevitable blow of my mother's passing and the funeral arrangements that will be necessary.
And as if my mother's health isn't enough, this is all coming at a time that is extremely hard for us as Palestinians and we have lost family in Gaza. Through all of this, both my father and I have remained steadfast in our activism, and we finally have an answer to the question so many friends have asked us: "What can we do to help your family?"
Your donation to this campaign will help make our lives so much easier, by taking away at least a portion of the stress that we have been dealing with for almost a month. It would help make sure that we don't have to worry about bills, and it would mean we can spend these precious last moments with my mother without yet another cloud of darkness hovering above us. The current asked amount of 10K would cover about a little over two months worth of hospice care, and any excess will be used to provide for more if we can get the time with Mona, or covering end-of-life arrangements.
Please help our family, and keep us in your thoughts.
