Hospital cost and Recovery for Mike Walden
Donation protected
Hi I am Alyssa, Mike Walden's youngest Daughter. As some may know my father had a horrific incident happen early morning Thursday February, 8th. For unknown reasons while he was walking in his home, he passed out and was unconscious for an unknown amount of time. This is not the first episode of passing out, but this one was a bad one. Due to the fall, he injured the back of his head and spinal cord in his neck area. After becoming conscious, he realized he was unable to move or feel anything. He managed to wake his wife Debbie up by calling for her. EMS and fire were called and he was transported as an adult Trauma to the hospital. During his current stay in the TICU it was discovered that this incident caused an injury to his spinal cord in his C3, C4 region. This portion of your spinal cord is the most severe place to encounter an injury due to it controlling majority of your central nervous system. He underwent Spinal Surgery the next morning to remove portions of his C3 & C4 to allow the cord to swell and start to heal. If you know our dad you know he is not one to give up nor back down from a challenge. He is faced with an extremely challenging, long road ahead. In the last few days he has made small but MAJOR improvements such as, sensations in his limbs, as well as movement. He has more upcoming test and possible procedures to attempt to get to the root cause of his passing out episodes. Once these are all completed and he is cleared, he will be sent to Jacksonville to a Spinal rehabilitation hospital that specializes in his type of spinal injury. This center will give him the best opportunity and chance to get his functions and active lifestyle back. With all of this treatment and rehabilitation, they are faced with large medical bills they never anticipated on having. I am creating this GoFundMe with our dad's permission to try and help relieve some stress of the medical bills and cost, as well as traveling for his wife and her time off work, So he can have a support system during this time. Seeing our father like this has been absolutely devastating, but I know with his stubborn and determined mindset he will recover from this. He is always the first to give the shirt off his back for others from the Air Force, 20+ years of law enforcement, Doing anything in his power for family, friends and even people he may not know and I would love to try and do the same for him.
