OC Local, Erik Cantine needs your support!
Hello and welcome.
July 13, 2021 my dad had emergency brain surgery to remove a supposed benign tumor located in his right occipital lobe. After he started having unsettling symptoms such as complete blindness in his peripheral vision, no sensation in his lower limbs, and problems balancing, we knew it was time to get him to an ER. We were aware of this tumor since May, but were told not to worry too much since it appeared to be a meningioma, or tumor that has been there his whole life. Since May, the tumor had more than doubled and caused a great amount of symptoms that affected his day to day life, as explained above. His girlfriend and amazing caregiver, Kate, had to drop everything and take him to the nearest ER and further to John’s Hopkins for emergency surgery. One of my dads biggest concerns was his other younger children, Quinton, 8, and Cecily, 6. We are very grateful that my dad was put into good hands at the hospital, as he came out with amazing cognitive ability. We are still awaiting the pathology results of the tumor, but regardless, we have high hopes he will tackle this like a pro. My dad has always been my support and now it’s time for me to be his :)
Unfortunately this all came to us very suddenly and gave us very little time to financially prepare. Erik has been out of work for some time now, and not sure when he will be able to return.
Any contributions to this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
