NJ COVID-19 Hospital iPad Fund
Donation protected
New Jersey has been one of the hardest-hit states by the coronavirus pandemic with the second highest COVID-19 case count in the US. Due to the severity of the pandemic, our local hospitals in New Jersey have been overwhelmed with sick patients and a lack of resources.
One of the saddest realities of the coronavirus is that due to its highly infectious nature, COVID-19 patients are kept in complete isolation. Sadly, many go weeks, and often even pass away, without any contact with their loved ones. In some cases, doctors and nurses offer their own devices to patients, leaving them more at risk of infection. The preventive measure of isolation extends far beyond COVID-19 patients, even including most individuals admitted to hospitals for other medical reasons. Virtual visits are the only connections patients have with family members in what can be a long road to recovery.
Our goal through this project is to facilitate safe communication between sick patients and their families, which is why we’ve created this GoFundMe. We want to reach out to the Central Jersey community and those beyond, and give them the opportunity to donate to our fund dedicated towards the purchase of iPads for local hospitals. iPads have many uses in hospital units right now. They are the most versatile medium because they are compatible with video-chat apps like FaceTime, Zoom, Hangouts, and most hospital softwares and programs. Other than the ability to facilitate virtual visits, they are needed by doctors to practice telemedicine and conduct virtual rounds, which are both crucial measures that need to be taken to limit the spread of the virus.
Our volunteer effort is a student-led initiative at NUI High School in Central Jersey. We are five high school students who started this project in response to the stories we have heard from frontline workers about the dire situation at hand. Our donations are coordinated with major central Jersey hospitals such as Robert Wood Johnson in Hamilton, New Brunswick, and Somerset, as well as Saint Peter’s University Hospital and Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center.
Your donation to our cause can be far more than monetary. Spread the word– share, repost, and send this to anyone you know. Every iPad we buy allows a family to stay connected during this time of incredible struggle. Each donation we receive is a small but crucial step in our effort to help the situation created by COVID-19.
If you have any questions, would like to make donations through another platform such as Venmo, or know of any hospitals in Central Jersey in need of iPad donations, please contact us at [email redacted]
Thank you for your contribution!
