Help us host our 3rd annual Black Block Party!
About Us
We are The Black Block Association and this year we are hosting our 3rd annual Black Block Party (BBP). BBP is a free-access community event that seeks to promote and support Black artists, creatives and entrepreneurs in Vancouver while creating an avenue for community building among Black individuals here. Our mission is to create a gathering space for Black individuals where culture, talents and uniqueness are celebrated to foster community, friendships, and collaboration. We firmly believe that diversity and inclusivity are the cornerstones of a thriving community, and by embracing the beauty of black culture, we can build bridges, inspire unity, and celebrate the diversity that makes Vancouver truly special.
The Black Block Party aims to make Black folks more visible in Vancouver and to provide a space for communal gatherings and celebrations. Through gathering, the Black Block Party hopes to counter the dominant narrative that there are no Black folks in Vancouver. Further, through claiming space, the Black Block Party aims to cultivate a sense of belonging for the Black community and increase social connections and build social capital.
The Black Block Party is more than just a celebration. It's a powerful platform that amplifies black voices, talent, and creativity. It's a stage that shines a light on the incredible achievements and contributions of the black community in the arts, business, education, and beyond. We know how important and beneficial the BBP event is, our track record from last year we saw 4,500 members of the greater Vancouver community come to the event. There was so much engagement and enjoyment that a substantial amount of our vendors sold out all of their inventory by day’s end. We’ve been fielding inquiries from our community already which continues to fuel our passion as we are well into our planning for BBP 2024: commUNITY.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need funding to make this all happen and to bring many new expansions to the BBP experience for our community members.
Want to know what your Donation will Fund?
Your generous donation will go towards:
- Enabling us to make this event free for all attendees. Our event has been free for two years and would love to do the same this year to support us in removing any financial barriers for our community.
- Paying for the event infrastructure: Planning an event is very expensive and your donation will go towards supporting this
- Paying for artists and performers: To promote their craft and give them a platform for their creative expression. We believe in paying our creatives fairly and in line with current regulations, your donation will help us meet our value of fairness and justice.
- Providing gifts for volunteers: Our volunteers spend almost the entire day with us, they are the backbone of our show day! Your donation will help us to feed them and give them a token of appreciation for their hard and outstanding work.
- Empowering and cultivating a community: for Black folks in Vancouver and dispelling the loneliness and isolation folks face.
With your help, we can make this happen and continue our far-reaching impact to bridge community for Black folks and those in the Greater Vancouver community/ area.
