EVERY GREAT NYC SHOW needs FUNDING!!  Unfortunately, NOT ALL expenses are covered by the great US SOLO FESTIVAL , but a majority of the expenses are:  theatre rental,  lights, air, programs, ticketing, ushers, theatre staffing, website listing, security,  full tech rehearsal, etc.  So, this effort is to attempt to compensate the very diverse *creative team for their hard work this year to make this production of HOUN DAWG  a GREAT success and to cover some needed show expenses like:  props, costumes, music copyrights, program inserts, promo/marketing materials, rehearsal space, etc.


WHY $1,952?  Because WILLIE MAE "BIG MAMA" THORNTON was the first to record Leiber and Stoller's "Hound Dog", in 1952, which became her biggest hit, staying seven weeks at number one on the Billboard R&B chart in 1953 and selling almost two million copies!  What a fitting and significant number.

It's time for some HERstory and what better way to enlighten others in NYC about such a blues legend thru musical theatre during one of the largest solo festivals!  Azusa SHESHE Dance  has been honored to tell the true story of WILLIE MAE BIG MAMA THORNTON in Chattanooga, TN and now has the opportunity to share a her story in New York, NY LIVE ON STAGE with the **2018 UNITED SOLO FESTIVAL  held at THEATRE ROW SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 at 2pm will be HOUN' DAWG:  The Life & Times of Big Mama Thornton.


Step back in time with vocal powerhouse Big Mama Thornton, the blues singer, songwriter and entertainer known for her top Billboard hits. This musical comedy shows her experience with racial and sexual tensions in the music industry. Join us on her fearless journey of musical strife and success.
