House Fire displaces family of 5 with 3 cats

If there were ever a time to give, today is that day.
Saturday, February 20, 2021, was supposed to be the beginning of a new chapter in our mother’s life. She was moving into an assisted living facility; her health has declined so quickly and so drastically; her care needs are now beyond what we can provide in-home. Earlier this week, my sister and her family came up to help pack up Mom’s belongings in preparation for her move. As you can imagine it was a physically and emotional exhausting week. My sister and I juggled our 6 kiddos, ages 12yrs, 9yrs, 5yrs, 3yrs and 8-month-old twins, as well as packed, prepped and staged our mother’s new studio apartment.
We were completely focused on moving Mom when the phone rang. My sister’s house had caught fire. In complete disbelief, we buckled up the kids and headed down to my sister’s house, which was an hour and half away.
When we arrived, the house was completely destroyed, and the family pets missing. We eventually found the 3 cats, whom were treated at the local animal hospital. The only silver lining of this situation is that my sister and her children were at my house, and her husband was out of town for work, because we are being told that the fire began around 5:00am in the morning and their safety could have been compromised. We are thankful that they were not home during this devastation and are safe.
Unfortunately, the home, and almost all of the belongings were demolished. You can see in the pictures, beds, furniture, clothing, toys and books have been incinerated. All that is left is soggy memories of a loving family’s home.
My sister’s family is staying a few nights in hotel, without any sense of stability for the future. I am sure you are wondering, just as I am, how will they get through this. In the midst, of a year already filled with disappointment and lost income, rebuilding their lives, and finding shelter seems out of reach.
With your help, we could get this family back on their feet. Anything you could give, helps! Thank you for your kindness.
