House fire cleanup and repairs
Donation protected
Being under the poverty level and without savings I am not able to afford to rebuild my house without help. I ran out of money to pay for cleanup and had to go back to work for a few weeks, but now am been hit with fines from the city for taking so long. There is no way I can afford a professional clean up company so have been fortunate to find friends whom I've been paying $10 an hour to help. I can only work a paying job sporadically because I need to be helping my friends as I am the only one with construction experience.
I didn't have fire insurance and not for lack of trying. Insurers declined, I assume, because I am on the outskirts of the city. (The Thomas wildfire came right up to the edge of my property, but our excellent Fire Department kept my home safe.) The cause of this fire was determined possibly electrical, but neighbors did see people running out of my yard when the fire started. I was out of town when the fire occured, so it's really a mystery.
It is important to me to keep as much stuff out of the landfill as possible, cleaning up things which can be donated to the thrift store or can be recycled, but this takes more time and help.
As far as rebuilding, I want to keep as much of the structure as possible ( the garage, kitchen, and bathroom have all been untouched), and rebuild the shop and bedroom. I'm very interested in seeing if using shipping containers will be possible as I love the idea of reusing things and using less new building materials.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
