House Manager and Grateful Recovering Addict
Tax deductible
Greetings and Happy New Year. I hope all is well and that this year will bring great health and happiness to all of us as we put 2020 in our rear view mirror. I am making a desperate plea for help. I was a degenerate complusive gambler and with my history, this type of plea was always made in the past to steal money to fuel my gambling addiction. I am currently 3 years and 2 1/2 months clean and still living and managing the Jewish House Recovery Center sober living located in Beverlywood. The desperate plea for help is for the house itself. The house needs financial donations to keep its doors open and continue to provide a safe haven for recovering addicts. I work full time at my day job and at the house. The house only survives on rent which is only $1000 a month but with the pandemic, the house has fallen on tough times. I have raised a few thousand during the time I have been here and when it comes to repairs around the house, I have given back and paid for them myself which adds up to more than $4000. The addiction world is a complicated topic and I am speaking from experience. I have helped a tremendous about of addicts from the street and other rehabs to join our house. Initially they pay the rent but eventually fell behind because of the pandemic. We have a number of residents that are a few thousand dollars behind but the house does not choose to put the residents out in the streets. As a Jewish House, we are looking to help maintain their recovery and get them acclimated back to society again. I have found jobs for them but it is the house that is the real hero. The Jewish House Recovery Center LLC is a not for profit 501(c)3 and charitable house. I am sure the pandemic has affected us in different ways but hopefully not health wise. If are you able to help, the donations can be sent to the following:
Jewish House Recovery Center LLC
2158 Guthrie Drive
Los Angeles, CA 90034
Attention: David Clifford
David Clifford is the owner of the house and has been in the recovery business for over 35 years. He took me in when I was still at Beit T'Shuvah completing my rehab and gave me the honor of living and managing the house.
We hope that you can help. We have reached the point of desperation but we are still looking for recovering addicts to fill the empty beds because the mission still carries on. We pray that help will come in abundance soon and I will continue to be a great part of this house and community. Love you all and may G-d continue to watch over and protect us during this pandemic. Thank you.
As a follow up, the owner itself does not take any money from the rent that is collected. The owner does pay out of his own pocket for all of the utilities which are all in arrears. The house is for the residents themselves. The owner continues to pay out of his own pocket and has put out several hundreds of thousands dollars over the years without any reimbursement. Again, the plea is for the house. Please feel free to private message me if you wish not to disclose for all to see. We are just a house that can take in a maximum of 13 residents. We currently house 8 residents and still looking for those who are looking for a safe haven. I would appreciate and look forward to talking on the phone or meeting in person as I feel it is necessary to discuss the real picture that cannot be expressed in a short message. Thank you.
