House Of Color Crew Needs Your Support

Donation protected

To understand why I’m doing this and asking for money, you have to understand something else first.

I opened House of Color with one intention. To give 7 stylists, including myself, the best environment possible to create their own personal success and still be part of a family. I wanted their booth rent to be as affordable as possible. Never once did it cross my mind to escalate their rent to profit off their backs. I’ve kept this model always, knowing that as long as I was true to my word of keeping the environment right, the bills would be paid. They always have been up until now. As I type this I know that Covid19 has wrecked shops all over the US, I understand that every single person who reads this is probably in their own kind of predicament. As the owner of HOC I’ve always thought that I was doing the right thing keeping booth rent low,  but I have to own that I did not ever think to put the little profit that comes in, into savings. I put it back into the shop, added stations, expanded the team and over time reached 16 stylists. All the while my lease increasing in price having doubled since 2015. Whether you’re a client, a friend, a family member or a total stranger to one of HOC’s many talented stylists, we are in trouble. We are a family made up of moms to kids ranging in all ages, spouses to other self employed and out of work people, and 20 somethings just getting on a roll in their career. We don’t have PTO or FMLA and we are not allowed to work for 6 weeks. This is 1 1/2 months of booth rent they can’t pay and I can’t collect but am still expected to pay to my landlord. I am truly afraid of the consequences of not being able to make these payments. I’ve never imagined myself in this position before and I am asking that anything you can do from $1 to $100 will make a difference in keeping the salon open and food on all their plates while we wait for stimulus and loans and unemployment. Let me unburden them. They are the most amazing loyal team and I need this for them. For some the salon is their first home. It needs to be there when this is all done. Love you, thank you, Katelyn. #smallbusinessrelief
