Houseman Family Loses Home and Health Due to Mold

Steven and Sandra Houseman and their two young boys recently discovered the home they were living in was making them sick. About a year and a half ago, their then 4-year-old started having tics, tremors and seizures. After weeks of EEGs, an overnight EMU stay, an MRI, neurology appointments, ER visits, and 12k in medical bills, he was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Eventually, they were advised to think about his environment which led them to inspecting their home for mold. Sure enough, they found a substantial amount in the corner of a storage room in their basement. Unfortunately, a mold test confirmed several types of toxic mold. They have had to move out of their house and have been staying with friends and family members. And, on top of losing their home, they've learned more about mold toxicity than they ever wanted to know. Porous items can never be properly cleaned of mold and need to be thrown away. Mattresses, pillows, couches, coats, shoes, anything with fiber fill, etc. all must be thrown away. And, there’s no way to properly disinfect the insides of things like space heaters, humidifiers, diffusers, etc. The Housemans have lost their home and most of their possessions. They are constantly helping others and serving their community. They have an unknown amount of medical bills in their future and need our help. In Sandra's words, "We’re just beginning this journey and I know we have a long road ahead. We’re exhausted. We’re worn out. We’re feeling defeated. I know that finding out and getting away from all of this is a real blessing. But throwing away thousands of dollars worth of stuff and looking at a difficult (and expensive) road to recovery is super overwhelming."
