The House of Chloe

Hi! I’m Temeka, Chloe’s mom…
I had an opportunity to be the mother of an amazing little girl who changed my life forever. She and I had a very close, loving relationship and we stayed on the go, doing fun activities with lots of friends. Chloe loved to have parties and dress fancy, wearing matching accessories and nail polish. She had the chance to attend the White House Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, ride a boat, plane, train, horse and elephant, play a violin, dance, drum, do gymnastics and yoga, win a county-wide art competition, be in a children’s music video, and much, much, more. Her lively personality and laughter were infectious, as she left a powerful impression on all who met her. She is known for having a big heart and genuinely caring about people. Overall, Chloe had an amazing life and she was truly a happy child.

In early May of 2014, Chloe requested to have an early 7th birthday party to celebrate with friends, since her actual birthday of July 25th was during summer break. The last day of May was the only day I could reserve the neighborhood clubhouse and pool. That morning, Chloe had a dance recital and drumming, mid-day she was with her Girl Scouts troop for two hours, and that afternoon, she had a three-hour pool party. She spent the entire day surrounded by friends and she said, “Mommy, this is the best day ever!” About 30 minutes after her pool-party ended, Chloe started complaining that her left arm was not working. Her condition grew progressively worse within a matter of hours, and she was rushed to the emergency room. She was unable to use her arms and legs and then her lungs started to collapse. The emergency room team of doctors and nurses worked around the clock to save Chloe’s life. She was diagnosed with having a rare, undetectable blood clot that caused an embolic stroke and collapsed lung.

On Monday morning, June 2nd, the doctor asked that she be released from life support, as there was nothing more they could do. I crawled into bed next to my little girl, my only child, and held her tightly until her body turned cold. In an instance, my little angel was gone. The day Chloe transitioned is the most devastating day of my life. I am learning to cope by focusing on the amazing experience of being her mother and the joy she brought to so many people’s lives. Most importantly, I am making sure that I keep the promise I made to her that we would help people.

In her honor, The House of CHLOE, Inc. is being established to help children have a positive childhood experience that helps them transition into independent, healthy adulthood. We believe that every child deserves to be valued and loved. Through this organization, parents and children will have the opportunity to engage in fun activities and establish a meaningful, loving relationship. By providing a supportive infrastructure for the family, The House of CHLOE, Inc. will help reduce the number of child abuse cases and child behavioral problems that lead to issues such as bullying, at-risk labeling, unplanned pregnancies, and school dropouts. Our goal is simple: to cultivate humanity, one family at a time. Chloe’s radiant soul will live forever through the work done by this organization on behalf of children everywhere – to cultivate health, love, opportunity, and education. C.H.L.O.E.

I take this time to thank you in advance for your generous donation, whether large or small, to help build The House of CHLOE.  It is much appreciated!
