HOUSING COVID-19 Relief Fund

HOUSING was established in 2017; prompted by the social climate of Black Lives Matter and #MeToo movements. The space is run and operated solely by Black women and WOC. HOUSING strives to provide empathy and resources for artists of color who are marginalized and exploited through the art market. We have been the inaugural show for many Black artists and artists of color to support their practice and cultivate community. HOUSING is dedicated to provide, especially during these times. The stimulus checks have gone out and many artists, curators, and writers, are left between the cracks in a flawed system that does not protect all of its citizens. The art world has reaped the benefits of its association with Blackness, queerness, and "the other" to reignite the province of the art economy. Many emerging galleries like HOUSING and the emerging artists they show will see the harshest economic ramifications of this global pandemic. We have had three shows cancelled and postponed during the Spring. These were opportunities for the gallery and artists to profit from their three years of dedication and sacrifice for Black and Brown artists. All shows were financially funded by KJ Freeman, who is an abuse survivor.  Without the ability and opportunities to work, we will not be able to continue our programming, and to manage insisting obligations.  


HOUSING Relief Fund will help support the arts communities that are often forgotten or underrepresented. The majority of the proceeds donated will fund grants for artists of color and creatives. 
Emergency Grants ranging from 75- 500
based on a case- by-case need basis and current disenfranchisement, given the effects COVID-19 has had on their finances, opportunities, families, and health.
