Housing for Elaine

Donation protected

I have started this go fund me for one of my closest friends, Elaine. She is someone who never asks for help, has a heart of gold, and an attitude of faith and perseverance. There are times though that we need some extra help and this is one of those times for Elaine. She would never ask. But I will…

Elaine is undergoing her second round of treatment for pancreatic cancer. She has treatment every other week at OHSU and is generally sick for 5-6 days following her treatment. In addition to the stress of dealing with a major illness, she is going through a divorce. Many of her friends and acquaintances don’t know this because she doesn’t want sympathy. One difficult aspect of the pending divorce is that she had to move out of her home. She has been living in a beautiful MIL space for the past few months, but it is month-to-month. The house is for sale and now has a contingent offer.  As you can imagine, this has placed a great deal of stress on Elaine, as she juggles working, treatment, time with her boys, and now housing.

Currently she is spending $1600 per month on her MIL apartment. It includes all of her utilities. She is making ends meet, but barely. We have been looking for alternate housing situations and what we are finding in that price range is without light, with stairs that she cannot navigate safely, and not in safe neighborhoods. If you find it in your heart to give to this cause, you will be giving Elaine the peace-of-mind to know that for the next year ahead, she can live in a safe, light and bright, and close by neighborhood where her boys can be with her as much as they choose. With an extra $500 a month, she could get a much nicer place to spend the year as she undergoes treatment and finalizes her divorce. The hopes for this space are that it is located in Hillsboro, has two bedrooms, minimal stairs, lots of light, and in a safe neighborhood. Forest Grove is also an option.  In addition to the $500 a month, I would like to raise the money for her moving costs. This is security deposit, application fees, etc. I have set the goal at $10,000.00.

Elaine is one of the most selfless and empathetic people that I know. She is like a sister to me. Please help to provide her
with a happy environment where she can continue her treatment and focus on her health and well-being. If you know of any
rentals that meet these requirements,
please pass on the information. We know the right space is out there for her!

God Bless!
