Houston Family Trying to Stay Afloat

Hello, my name is Tamika Farina and my family and I are currently facing homelessness. We were living in an apartment and we were behind on rent despite trying to make a payment plan. The apartment complex told us that they would not cash our money orders until we paid them the full past due balance. They filed eviction against us, but told me that if there was a point in time where I decided to leave the apartment before the balance was paid, they would return those money orders to me. They made this decision without first consulting with the regional manager and this morning after being told on Saturday (03/14/2025) afternoon that we would need to evacuate the apartment and receive our money orders back, they informed us that we are not getting our money orders back. I lost my job last week but have applied for unemployment and hope to drive Uber in the near future, we already signed a lease for a new apartment and as of right now we need $2000 to move in. Yes, I understand our problems are our own. Nobody is more ashamed nor embarrassed than I am. I am currently awaiting word from the United Stated Army as I try to pursue enlistment. I am not sure what the future holds for us if we do not come up with this money soon. My heart is broken. My kids are the only thing keeping me sane right now. Please, I beg. Anything helps.
