How many horses can we save from slaughter this year?

Tax deductible

Want to join us in making a difference? This is our 19th year to help horses in need. We are raising money to benefit Saddlebred Rescue Inc, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us and our volunteers.

It is the mission of Saddlebred Rescue, Inc. (SBR) a 501c3 nonprofit to educate the public on concerns facing the saddle horse breeds and save the unwanted horses from slaughter and return them to useful, productive lives.

Each year, many horses will be sold through various means. The well-meaning owner often believes that their horse is headed to a loving new home. Although, this is true in most cases, a frightening number of usable American Saddlebreds, Morgans and on occasion, Hackney ponies end up for slaughter.

Our program purchases the horses from slaughter bound auctions or from the brokers directly. We rehab and care for them at our facility. At the same time we start compiling evaluations of each horse that helps us adopt them out into the best situations possible. We keep a promise with each horse that is documented in the adoption agreements that if their adopting family can no longer care for them for any reason they must be returned to our program.

We need your help to cover costs while the horses are in rehab on our property and we work with 35-45 horses at any one time. The more we can adopt out the more horses we can save. In the meantime we need quality hay and grain. All the horses see the vet for their needs and often supplements are needed as well as vaccinations. Then the farrier comes often for feet care and trimming hoofs and many wear plates as needed. These costs add up and are multiplied by the number of horses we have in house at the rehab. The $50,000 funding target only represents about 10-15% of our annual operating budget but it helps us get through the summer months which are often low donation months.
