Hartland woman dead after motorcycle crash in Howell Township
Police said a 46-year-old Hartland woman was killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon near Howell.
Officials said the preliminary investigation shows a 44-year-old Hartland man was driving a 1994 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle with a female passenger also from Hartland on Highland Road about 3:40 p.m. The Sheriff's Office says the motorcyclist lost control in the rain merging onto westbound I-96 from Highland Road, crossed three lanes of traffic and crashed in the median.
The man was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital by Livingston County Ambulance with life threatening injuries. Officials said he is currently in stable condition. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the name of either victim. Officials said the driver and passenger were both wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Livingston County Ambulance, Hamburg Township Police, Howell Area Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police. The freeway remained closed for approximately three hours while deputies investigated.
This accident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
