Hello. I am writing this because my son Spencer has just been given a diagnosis that due to the Surgeon damaging a nerve in his spinal cord, he will never walk again. This occurred during his third surgery to repair a tethered spinal cord. This procedure resulted in paralysis of his lower extremities. His Neurosurgeon states that even with years of therapy, he won’t gain function. Spencer has been living through his constant pain hoping this surgery would be the chance for him to be well again. He has struggled through this since March 2017, while he was a junior at Johnson & Wales University. He graduated in May 2018, and instead of continuing his dream to become a Chef and open his own restaurant, he was forced to turn down multiple job offers and focus on finding treatment for his ill health. This prolonged situation and uncertainty have had lasting psychological effects on Spencer. He has also developed Contamination OCD, which affects his life greatly, as he lives in constant fear of germs. Spencer’s once bright future has diminished into despair, pain, and severe health issues for a dynamic 27-year-old. His only source of joy comes from the love of our dog Moira, who is a rescue mini pinscher who gives him unconditional love. We have also been away from our family in Italy, as Spencer has two nieces he loves dearly but is unable to travel to see. I am asking for help to pay for medical expenses, treatments, and upgrades to the home to accommodate his new condition and disability. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Michelle Ross.
