15 years ago my mom was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer. She’s been giving it a run for it’s money ever since! Recently, she has experienced a downturn in her health which has resulted in her needing a stem cell transplant asap. Multiple 10/10 donor matches have been identified and the team at City of Hope in Duarte is in the process of selecting the best match and getting a date from the donor. And then the journey begins. The transplant will require intense chemotherapy and radiation while hospitalized 4-6 weeks, followed by up to 3 more months living within 30 minutes of the hospital. This is for a very minimum of 100 days in total before releasing my mom to go back home to the desert. In addition, the hospital stipulates that she will need a 24/7 caregiver during this time. Our family is working together to cover her caregiving needs.

Going through a stem cell transplant is very challenging physically, emotionally and psychologically. It’s also very very expensive. My mom and dad will have to temporarily move to the Arcadia, Ca to be close to the hospital and this part alone will cost upward of $20k. There will also be the cost of transportation, supplies and a host of other things. That being said, we’re reaching out for support of friends and family. We know it’s hard times out there for everyone, so any support you can give will be a true blessing!
