My name is Victoria and I have breast cancer at 27. I also suffer from PTSD, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder with recurring episodes, agoraphobia, adjustment disorder, and a extreme phobia when it comes to anything medical .

I went in to the doctor with intense pain in my chest in November. I was shrugged off and told it was normal because of my age. The pain increased and I saw another doctor in March for increased pain and swelling. She referred me for same day imaging and at the imaging location they immediately wanted a mammogram after the sonogram. The radiologist thought it was an infection in my milk ducts that happens to breast feeding women but was honestly just baffled at my imaging.

The OBGYN rejected this theory and sent in an order for an MRI to see further into what was happening. A biopsy was next, and then it was confirmed I had triple negative stage 3 breast cancer at 27.

Not many know that between my scans and my biopsy I just knew in my gut that something was very wrong. I knew I had cancer. This combined with my phobias for medical procedures and needles as well as my panic and anxiety landed me in the hospital. I overdosed intentionally wanting to avoid the long, difficult and taxing road ahead. This hospitalization was not covered by insurance.

To top it off I had a cancer insurance policy that I made a claim with but it was 6 days short of the waiting period from getting the policy. With no history of cancer in the family we didn’t think this would be an issue.

I’m currently undergoing chemo and then will have a double mastectomy in September with radiation, tissue expanders, and further reconstruction surgeries after. It could be 2-5 surgeries depending on what they can save.

While I’m able to take off work short term currently my husband is not. When I have surgery next month he will have to take leave unpaid. A month after when I’m still in recovery I will have to switch to long term disability leave and only be paid 60%. With the loss of income we will be struggling to pay our mortgage or any of our other bills. The increasing medical bills over the last few months are starting to drain our savings to the point we cannot go without a dual income.

We are asking for help during this extremely difficult time so that we can focus on what matters most which is healing. Any contribution helps!
