Love for Tara

As many of you already know, Tara is one of the most beautiful and courageous people there is. She is resilient beyond belief and resourceful as all get out. We are always in awe of her curious, wandering approach to life and ability to adapt to whatever is being served up at the present moment. She embodies freedom with an open and accepting heart. She's a free spirit! And we wouldn't have it any other way! Tara is a friend to all- human, animal and plant. AND even the best of us struggle and need our friends to get by.
This has been a difficult time for all of us, as we learn to both cope and adapt to circumstances that feel largely out of our control. Our friend, Tara, has had a particularly rough time. In April, Tara traveled from Portland, OR to Boston, MA to say goodbye to her sweet Mama, Barbara Carney, who succumbed to the Covid-19 virus on April 27, 2020. Tara has been devastated by her loss and appreciates all the kind words and love she continues to receive from her friends and family.
Barbara was the kindest, most loving person and I can still hear her saying my name with the long, drawn-out ahhhh of a Boston native. She always wanted to know if I was hungry--and I WAS. She called me sweetheart a lot. I'll miss her, too.

Currently, Tara has had to leave a difficult situation in Portland and is living day-to-day on the Oregon Coast with her companion kitty, Moose. It was extremely important to Tara that she was able to be with her mother in her final days and had to sacrifice the survival job she was working at the time in order to be there
with Barbara.

Tara has always had a job and a super work ethic- she got Shomari her first real job at a bakery when she was fifteen! It was a horrible experience, but that's not the point! As an incredibly independent lady, Tara has always been self-sufficient and creative. We have never once worried that Tara wouldn't overcome any challenge she met. Unfortunately, Tara has been unable to secure stable employment right now, further compounded by the grieving process and isolation she is experiencing. Tara has yet to receive any support from our government, as she has been in transition and doesn't have a secure home at present. She never asks for help- but she really needs it right now.
We'd like to alleviate the burden of financial worry for Tara as much as we can for the next few months. We're looking to cover her living costs as much as we can, and maybe raise a little extra so she can get some form of transportation, like a scooter or something. We have no doubt, she will rebound and find her way back to a place where she is stable and thriving as soon as she can. She is PMA all the way.
In the meantime, we are hoping to get her through the next few months, so that she can focus her energy on taking care of herself rather than stressing about survival. She needs a cushion of support while she devises her next master plan (which we hope will mean moving closer to us!) Soon we will all get together to laugh (and cry) with our dear friend, do some synchronized interpretive dance and talk s**t in our best Boston accents. She'll probably make us her famous Split Pea soup and play Mariah Carey's greatest hits (which we will all tolerate with good attitudes). We'll shatter some glass with high notes! For now, let's put a smile on that beautiful freckle face. This probably goes without saying, but anything you can contribute will be received with so much gratitude!
With much love and appreciation,
Shomari and Anne
