OUR CAUSE:
Food banks are struggling to meet the increasing demand as millions of workers lose their jobs and schools close indefinitely in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. In California alone, 2.7 million people filed for unemployment last month and are turning to local food banks for basic necessities like food.
As people wait in long lines for a meal, the local Tri City Volunteers (TCV) Food Bank is working hard to keep up with the unprecedented demand, but they need our help to ensure that they can provide food to all those who are in need in the community! “The need to feed has increased and keeps increasing at an alarming rate”, says Taylor Johnson, the Executive Director of the TCV Food Bank.
Hi! I am Aditya Mittal, a 9th grader in American High School and an officer of the American High School Red Cross Club . The club is dedicated to helping the local community with relief efforts during emergencies, such as the coronavirus pandemic. My fellow club officers, Angela Hawkins, Mihika Balaji, Ashika Maniam, Ashna Singh, Ananya Garg, Sachi Dogra and I are raising funds to donate to the TCV Food Bank to help struggling local families.
What is the TCV Food Bank
TCV Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides food assistance to the residents of Fremont, Newark and Union City and is the largest client-direct food bank in the area. They usually serve 200 hungry families every day from their Marketplace on Joseph Street, Fremont and a further 100+ at their growing Mobile Pantry sites. However, since the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order, they have seen numbers increase drastically — and are currently distributing food as a Drive-Thru Grab ’n Go distribution to over 420 families a day and over 150 a day as Mobile Drop-off distributions. TCV Food Bank is distributing bags of healthy food including seasonal fruits and vegetables, whole grains, canned and boxed goods, meats, and dairy items.
Why We Need Your Support
While the TCV Food Bank has been doing a phenomenal job so far, they are struggling to keep up with the demand. Mr. Johnson says: "As we see more families effected by loss of income — the need to put food on their family’s table is becoming a challenge. That’s why we are here — and we are doing everything possible to step up in this time of uncertainty.”
To make matters worse, the TCV Thrift Store remains closed as part of the California COVID-19 response, thus eliminating a substantial source of revenue to fund the Food Bank.
Your monetary support is greatly needed and by stepping forward, you can help the TCV Food Bank help the ones who need it most in this time of crisis.
Why Donate Money Instead of Goods?
Your donations will be used to provide food for more families in the Fremont, Newark & Union City areas. Donating money to food banks is a great way to help because they can leverage their wholesale purchasing power to stretch every $1 to buy $7 worth of food. In other words, your gift multiples by 7! This also allows people to help while sheltering-in-place and reduces the burden on the limited number of volunteers to sort & manage the food items.
Our Mission
Nobody should go hungry in our community, especially in these uncertain times when they need help the most! Our goal is to raise $3000 to feed over 300 local families for a week through these uncertain times.
Please join us in reaching our goal and helping TCV Food Bank to support families struggling financially to put food on their table during this time of crisis. Every contribution counts!!
