Huffman Family in Need of Support

Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Rob Adkins and I'm reaching out on behalf of the Huffman Family to all their friends and family. My goal with your help is to provide for my niece Breanna Huffman and her family financially during a trying time in their lives. I know that we all have periods of difficulty, challenge, and adversity however, if you know Breanna, you know that she has had a lifetime of battles in her life due to a lifelong chronic heart condition because she was born with a complex Congenital Heart Defect. In the face of this adversity, Breanna has worked hard and has been able to maximize her blessings alongside her husband to support their young family of four.

Nevertheless, as the old saying goes “when it rains it pours” has never been truer for my niece and family than in the year 2023. Breanna and her family have had an extremely difficult year and although they managed to stay positive and persevere through all the many obstacles that life has brought their way in 2023, they have reached a point where they can no longer do it on their own.

Normally in the face of my niece’s medical trials, her husband Brad who is a truck driver has been able to work overtime and do what is needed to provide for their family. However, in April 2023 he was in a severe car accident that totaled his vehicle and left him with severe neck, shoulder, and back injuries of his own. Due to the nature of his career, these injuries forced him to be off work until the mid-summer of 2023. After his injuries had started to improve through therapy Brad was eager to return as he is the main breadwinner for his family and knew that his family was falling behind financially.

However, shortly after going back to work in September of 2023, the pain in his neck, back, and shoulder injuries started to return even more severe than before. Brad sought relief by going back to physical therapy. Ultimately, by October of 2023, Brad woke up one morning and couldn't turn his neck to the left, had pain down his left shoulder to his left arm and hand and fingers, and was completely unable to perform his work duties. By November Brad was referred to an Orthospine doctor who found that he needed to have two of the discs in his neck replaced. Brad’s surgery is scheduled for January 16th, 2024. Brad has been off work since October and altogether off work for almost half of 2023. His disability pay has been delayed due to an administrative error and backlog during the holidays in the disability department. The disability department still hasn't processed his extension forms, and he hasn't been paid in over a month.

Simultaneously, during Brad’s tough year, my niece Breanna has had an extremely challenging year with her health as well. It all started in February when Breanna when the right ventricular of her pacemaker malfunctioned leading to her ultimately having to have her entire pacemaker replaced. Due to her restrictions the hospital that she works at made her take extended time off until she was able to go back to work in full capacity in April of 2023.

In August of 2023, Breanna found out that the pulmonary valve in her heart which was replaced in 2011 was starting to fail. Her overall health and even her ability to complete everyday tasks was declining quickly due to the malfunctioning of the valve. However, Breanna continued to fight through and worked up until the day before her surgery and underwent a transcatheter valve replacement on December 7th, 2023. Breanna took three weeks off work to recover during the Christmas holiday and returned to work on January 2, 2024.

After believing that she won another battle with her heart condition, on January 2, the day that she returned to work she was having severe abdominal and pelvic pain. Just five hours into her first shift back she was forced to clock out and take a trip to the ER of the hospital in which she works. From the results of many tests in the ER, it was believed that she could be having intermittent ovarian torsion, but they only prescribed her mild pain medication and told her to follow up with her doctor. Yet again, even in severe pain, Breanna worked the very next day and contacted her doctors to try and get an appointment, but they were unable to see her quickly. By the next day on January 4, 2023, Breanna was unable to bear the pain any longer and had to call off work and go to a more reputable hospital’s ER. Testing revealed that she was having intermittent ovarian torsion and was taken in for emergency surgery in the early hours of January 5, 2023. As a result, Breanna is forced to take at least an additional four weeks off from work.

Ultimately, Breanna and Brad time after time have made it through life’s battles largely on their own. However, this past year has been just too much to do on their own and has been one of the hardest times that they have ever experienced financially. This family of four, Breanna, Brad, and their two boys Wyatt and Henry can use some financial help just like many of us have needed at some point in our lives. They are already behind on their rent, car payments, and other bills. I'm hoping that you will join me in helping them by reaching out to family and friends to help provide some support in this time of need for their family. Any funds donated will be used to help them keep their home, catch up on their other bills as well as help with life’s necessities at this time.
