Hugo Tran's Memorial and Funeral

In the morning of January 5th, Hugo Tran passed in his home.
He would have celebrated his 36th birthday on January 26th. Instead, his family and friends will now be mourning his loss. Hugo had been taking care of his mother who was recovering after chemotherapy for bone cancer, handling her medical appointments and preparing medications and specially cooked meals for her. He was also taking care of his father and more recently his brother who had to remain at home for observation due to a coworker that contracted COVID-19. Words cannot begin to express the hurt his brother Brian and his parents are going through right now. They are thankful for the outpouring of support from friends and colleagues alike.
Hugo was an amazing person loved by many. He was such a kind, loyal and incredibly loving friend. He was the type of person who would pour his heart and soul into the things he loved. His love for music was infectious and his dedication/loyalty to friends brought out the very best in those around him. He attended the University of California, Riverside (class of ’09) and taught in the Westminster and Huntington Beach School Districts before going abroad to teach English in Okinawa, Japan for 5 years where he befriended many students and faculty members. His classes were popular and he was excellent at breaking the ice with his students by using his wealth of knowledge in Japanese culture and helping them out with anything they were struggling with. He truly had a passion for helping others.
After joining SQUARE ENIX in 2018, Hugo continued to do what he did best – helping others – this time as an operations support agent. He played a vital role in major titles such as FINAL FANTASY XIV by coordinating news announcements, translating player reports, and facilitating communications between the North American, European, and Japanese offices. He was also instrumental in the support of mobile titles including DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY OPERA OMNIA and STAR OCEAN: ANAMNESIS where he helped investigate and perform account recoveries and create banners for in-game events and campaigns. He would never compromise to ensure players had the best experience as possible. Players’ happiness was his happiness. Hugo was also a great mentor to new hires and helped many of them become proficient at their jobs. His legacy will live on in the company and all of the games he worked on.
This GoFundMe page was made to support Hugo’s family for the cost they will be facing along this difficult road. They are truly grateful for everyone’s condolences, the love they had for Hugo, and all the love he gave them. His friends and colleagues wish for all the strength in the world for them. Hugo touched many of our hearts with his kindness, cheerfulness, and humor, and we’ll miss him very much.
