Humanitarian Aid for Asylum Seekers
Donation protected
Hi!
We are Elissa McLean and Andy Winter. Last December we found ourselves working to provide humanitarian aid for Asylum Seekers who are crossing the US/Mexico border.
The folks arriving at the border are primarily families with small children fleeing violence in their home countries. They are coming from Mexico, Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia.
We were there with water, food, blankets, first aid, phone charging, and access to wifi so that people could make contact with their families after a long and dangerous journey to the US. All of the supplies we purchased came out of our own pocket.
There are no facilities at the place they arrive at the border wall in Arizona and many have not had food or water. They sometimes have to wait overnight before Border Patrol can pick them up and begin the asylum process.
Since last December, we have returned several times and Andy is headed back to Arizona/Mexico shortly. As a result of Biden's executive order in June, most asylum seekers are being immediately deported. Those arriving in Nogales, Mexico have had all their possessions (except for wallet and papers) taken by Border Patrol-- including their socks and shoelaces!
Your support helps pay for supplies for those who now have nothing as well as taxi fare to shelters where they can have a hot meal and a safe place to stay. It also covers food and water for those arriving in Arizona and waiting for Border Patrol.
We truly appreciate your support! It makes a difference!
Thank you so much!
