Humans of Fairy Creek 2024

**UPDATE**
*** Tasha here. I'm too sick to continue with the show. Also, we had to cancel Edmonton for lack of funds and the Victoria show due to my health and some other considerations.
The crew, led by Corina Fischer and MarMar, are going to continue with the Vancouver Fringe show (Sept 5-15) and a show at the Victoria Anarchist Bookfair on Sept 21. These funds will help the crew with travel, food, and shelter in Vancouver and maybe even a little extra. Thanks for your continued support. ***
Hi, my name is Tasha Diamant and you may know me for my decades of ecofeminist art and activism.
During the hottest summer in over 100,000 years, I produced and directed a powerful, uncomfortable, healing theatrical event at the 2023 Victoria Fringe entitled Humans of Fairy Creek: A Variety Show.
Co-producer Corina Fischer, who created last year's viscerally disturbing audio piece, and I are in the process of planning and devising an updated version of the show to take to the Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival (Aug 15-25), the Vancouver Fringe (Sept 5-15), as well as arranging dates for a Victoria run.
Capitalist and colonial violence, which is at the foundation of deforestation, has escalated globally.
At Fairy Creek, so many young people experienced violence from the "Canadian justice system" by taking a principled and nonviolent stand for their futures and for the very last old growth forests in BC.
Our governments have lied and gaslit all of us but I am most angry about how our "leaders" are destroying our children's futures. As a mother of two and a person living with Stage 4 cancer, who was undergoing chemotherapy treatment during last year's production, I pledge to use every last shred of my life energy to counteract this bullshit.
The stories of these brave youth not only deserve to be told, they deserve to be linked to the global ecocidal and genocidal actions of states and corporate interests.
Last year we spent $2900 in total to create the piece in Victoria where we all live; participants received small honoraria. We brought in $2100 including donations. My family took on that loss.
Taking ourselves to Edmonton will cost at least $5000. Plus at least $1500 to have devising meetings, food, create costumes, etc. Exact sums for accommodation in Vancouver are currently undetermined; food maybe $1500. Fringe fees are around $1500. In Victoria, we're probably looking at around $1000 to rent a venue. (This adds up to more than $9500.)
$9500 does not include paying participants. We cannot predict ticket sales. Any amount we make back over $9500 will go to participating performers, many of whom are young, queer, neurodivergent artists in need.
Please consider supporting one of the only theatrical pieces exploring this pivotal and appallingly under-reported ongoing Canadian story of resistance.
