Hummingbird Mental Health Cooperative

Hummingbird Mental Health Cooperative was conceived as a support required for wellness in our community. Mental Health is more of a community responsibility, and hospitality professionals are ambassadors for our city and neighbourhoods. Hummingbird is based on the principals of bystander intervention training as a means to create engagement with those at risk and bridge the gap towards professional support. We see the need in our community establishments, bars, and restaurants to reduce risk factors to build safe spaces for neurodivergent and at risk individuals. We seek to educate, advocate, and activate people to better support those around them while enhancing their personal wellbeing & self care. This exists in three models:

Individual: We are looking to train community outreach professionals that can help us see and support those around them. We are starting with this mental health first aid course and then aiming to build a team of people able to help spread the word, love, and resources. You are the hummingbirds and people with their eyes and hearts open for their staff and our industry. One year paid positions available for application after certification is complete.

Institutions: These are the bars & restaurants we work in! Once we have begun training individuals we will bring custom training modules to restaurants and bars based on their needs to certify it as a safe ‘perch’. We will train our hummingbirds to activate these engagements and check in on spaces to make sure they are upholding our values. Staff of these places will be able to contact us as an external HR source if they feel they need further support.

Industry: Our senior ambassadors and staff - the Mental Health & Hospitality Liaisons will conduct seminars regularly in markets here, in Canada, and eventually all across the world to grow the program. Expect to see us offering these every season to grow interest for our biannual industry MHFA trainings!

We are looking for community investment from our supporters across the world.
This money will go towards growing our reach, building our training, providing honorariums to our first contact ‘hummingbirds’ and subsidizing the costs of our first Mental Health First Aid Training.

You can help us expedite our growth to bring this much needed resource forward. By supporting us and growing our visibility we become more available to receiving grants, bursaries and other funding while we work towards our charitable status.

This initiative is needed and requested world wide and our international contacts are eager to work with us to set up more
Hummingbird Chapters across
the globe!

Thank you for being on the ground floor!

We appreciate and love you!

Take Care,
Dylan & Sharon
