1 in 100 babies are born with congenital heart defects and unfortunately Hunter was one of them. His specific condition is a rare and complicated form. We were told he would need open heart surgery around his 1st birthday to correct these defects. Due to other heart complications, Hunter was sent to Boston Children’s Hospital at 9 weeks old for his 1st open heart surgery to increase his oxygen levels. The visit was planned to last about 4 days, but unfortunately that did not happen; as the night after his 1st surgery, Hunter’s lungs filled with blood and he went into full cardiac arrest. He was on life support for the next few days. The amazing doctors and staff at Boston Children’s Hospital saved Hunter’s Life! Four days turned into four very difficult weeks, 3 open heart surgeries and no clear idea how long he will need to stay at the hospital.
As we write this story, Hunter is still in Boston Children’s Hospital. Our little man came into the world strong and ready to fight, his recovery is progressing nicely but the journey ahead will not be easy. In the first few years of life, Hunter will undergo complicated and high risk reconstructive open-heart surgeries at Boston Children’s Hospital. These surgeries will work to re-construct his little heart so that he can live a normal life. In just a few short months, Hunter has captured the hearts of his family, friends and his nurses. We are ready to take on the emotional roller coaster, and fight this battle right alongside him.
As many of you may know or can imagine, there are a lot of costs associated with caring for a baby who needs this level of medical attention. Our family has decided to create this "Go Fund Me" page in hopes to alleviate some of the financial burden that Hunter’s Mom and Dad will endure. Any money donated will help to pay for the following: Medical components baby Hunter will need, any medical expenses associated with baby Hunter’s condition that cannot be covered through medical insurance, accommodations in Boston for the family, meals, any other unforeseen expenses related to baby Hunter’s condition and part of the fund will go towards Hunter’s next surgery. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated!
Our family thanks you in advance for allowing us to share Hunter’s story with you. We ask that you please keep Hunter in your thoughts and prayers as he journeys his way through the ups and downs of this heart condition.
We will keep everyone updated on Hunter’s progress as time goes on.
