We have BIG news!
We are adopting a child internationally!
We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $40,000 or more and can quickly become overwhelming. Our estimated costs will be around $39,000.
We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up.
We intend to adopt a child in need from an Eastern European country. We are going through a great Christian agency who will help us match with a child in desperate need for a loving home.
We are the Huntley family (Jared and Jen). We were married in December 2014. Jared is a pastor and church planter and Jen is a graphic designer and also very involved in ministry right alongside Jared.
Before we were even married, we knew that God was calling us to adopt children. During our engagement, we spoke often about the great need we saw for followers of Jesus to step up and provide a safe and loving home for children in need of adoptive families.
In our minds, we have always felt that if we have the means to provide a home for children in need, we didn’t see how we could say no. We strongly believe that all followers of Jesus should be involved in some way in the care of orphans.
God has blessed us with a safe home, but He has also blessed us with the knowledge of the Gospel. Because of that, we believe that we can offer a loving home to children in need where they can learn about Jesus.
We also believe that adoption is one of the most beautiful ways to demonstrate the Gospel. Just as God the Father adopted us into his family even though we were once alienated from Him, we are convinced that part of God’s mandate to the church is to demonstrate His character by caring for the vulnerable like widows and orphans.
After we got married and started trying to have children of our own, we discovered that we would have fertility issues. While this was difficult news, it only increased our resolve and solidified our calling to adopt. We knew at that point that God was telling us, “it’s time to move forward”. At the time, we were living in Canada after planting a church with the North American Mission Board.
We knew that to move forward with adoption we needed to come back to the United States. So at the beginning of 2019, we moved to the Washington, DC metro area to help start another new church and to begin the process of adopting children. We are beyond excited for this next chapter in our story.
We understand that there will be tremendous challenges throughout this journey, but we believe that every single bit of it will be worth it. We are not adopting to fill a void in our lives. Rather, we are adopting because like Jesus we’ve been called not to be served but to serve and lay our lives down for others. We long to sacrifice our own personal preferences to provide a home for a precious child/children who do not have a mom or dad to care for them.
We will use the funds to pay for all adoption-related fees and costs of travel. Our first fees amount to over $10,000 and are due before we even do a home study, and any adoption grants we can apply for we will not be eligible for until after the home study. We will pay most of these fees immediately, most likely before February.
We are so excited for this journey and we’re thankful for everyone who has committed to helping us on it!
