Hurr Idalia Relief Fund for the Austin Family
Hurricane Idalia brought flood waters into Gary and Lillians' home of 38 years in St. Petersburg, FL on August 30, 2023. Every effort to seal up the house from flood waters failed. The saltwater coupled with sewage water destroyed all the contents of the house and garage. This includes clothing, furniture, bedding, linens, household appliances, household equipment, electronics, and work equipment for the family's property maintenance business. Oreo, the family dog, lost all his toys and beds. With the help of some friends, we started moving everything from the house. The house suffered damage from the electrical wiring destroying all the electronics. Until the electrician arrives, and the electrical system is repaired, we can't safely use power to help clean and sanitize the walls, floors, ceilings, and all surfaces. We won't know how much the insurance is going to cover minus the deductibles. We have been told it would take 6 weeks to process the claim and receive funds to start repairs and replacements. which means until then funds are extremely low. Gary, a Viet Nam Veteran, has Stage IV cancer and his VA benefits are still in deny and appeal, he can no longer work. Gary’s wife Lillian was hit by lightning on December 15, 2022. With her injuries, she tries to continue working with their son James in their family-owned property maintenance business as well as tending to Gary's needs. Over the years of Gary battling cancer and bearing the cost of surgeries and treatments there has been no way to save for emergencies. As a result of the storm and the aftermath our business has suffered we are unable to keep up with bills, food, and daily essentials let alone what we need to clean and start repairs and replacements. We really would appreciate your help and support.
