Hurricane & Assault: Help my family recover
Donation protected
I am raising funds for my niece Felicia's family, who are recovering from two awful events less than one week apart. On September 25th, my niece's husband, Josh, was driving his motorcycle to an early shift at work when he got into an altercation with a truck driver who was intoxicated. After chasing him for miles at high speeds, the driver attacked Josh with a machete. Although Josh was able to fight him off, he was severely injured. The man used his machete to cut several of Josh's fingers to the bone, putting him in awful pain and requiring a surgery that-- because of Hurricane Ian -- has yet to be scheduled.
Yup - fast forward a few days, and Hurricane Ian hits Felicia and Josh's home community of Northport extremely hard. They have been stuck in a flooded area without power for days, and their home has serious damage from trees falling on the roof. Like others in the area, they are expected to be without power for up to a month. While they plan for recovery, they face the fact that Josh will be unable to work for some time due to his injury. And right now, he's suffering from severe pain and disability in his hand, making it harder to clean up the damage and support his family's daily needs.
We are asking for donations to help Felicia and Josh with their mortgage costs, utilities, food, and hurricane clean-up/survival basics. We are not sure about the legal and medical costs for Josh's assault yet because these systems are on hold due to the natural disaster, but at this point, we want to help them survive with less pain, stress, and fear while they sort through all of these awful circumstances.
Josh is an incredibly dedicated father, and we know it must be tough for him to be limited in his abilities during this time of crisis for his family and neighborhood - AND that he is pushing himself too hard to do everything when he is in pain and needs to be careful with his hand. We need him to recover strong so he can support his family long-term, so please help us help them in the short-term!
