Hurricane Beryl Recovery: Rebuilding Roaring River
Donation protected
Fundraising is still relatively new to me, and being comfortable asking for donations is something I’ve heard takes practice.
So, I am boldly stepping out to ask, how much can you donate toward our hurricane recovery efforts?
Hurricane Beryl battered the island nation of Jamaica throughout the morning Wednesday, before the eyewall hammered the south coast of Jamaica in the mid-afternoon. Beryl was a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph at the time.
This was naturally a disaster, leaving a trail of destruction in southern Jamaica, killing at least two people on the island, bringing down power lines, and leaving hundreds homeless and in shelters. The rural areas took a brutal hit.
I’m headed to Roaring River, West Moreland, Jamaica, to assist with recovery efforts in the village, and I could use your help with Funding.
These funds will help pay for diverse expenses, including construction materials, generators, and food for the 200+ persons who live in the village and as many others as your generosity allows.
My name is Major Harris, and as a real estate investor and recovering construction foreman, I am in the unique position to have the time, financial skills, and building expertise to provide a great deal of help while maintaining good stewardship of all donated funds.
Roaring River holds a special place in our hearts because of the genuine kindness and love of the people. My wife and I get the privilege of visiting the village every year on our anniversary, and we always look forward to seeing our Jamaican family.
Your donations will help a most deserving community rebuild from a disaster described by one Jamaican as “Terrible. Everything’s gone. I’m in my house and scared,” Amoy Wellington, a 51-year-old cashier who lives in Top Hill, a rural farming community in southern St. Elizabeth parish, told Reuters. “It’s a disaster.”
