Sweetings Cay Lodge - Hurricane Dorian Relief

Donation protected
Sweetings Cay is a small fishing village widely visited by the boating, diving and fishing communities.  This page was created for the friends of the Sweetings Cay lodge that want a safe way to support our efforts to rebuild after the devastation left by Hurricane Dorian.

The international friends of the Lodge are responding overwhelmingly with relief items which we share with our immediate community and those mostly affected.

Funds are used to replenish the local resources, to ensure our communities receive donated relief during their displacement and to sustain immediate relief during the rebuilding stage.  We feel this will better enable us to rebuild and restore our lives and our community.

To date, Dorian is the strongest hurricane in the history of the Bahamas that sat for 36 hours directly over the Northern Bahamas and our homes on Sweeting’s Cay.   Hurricane Dorian at its worst was a category 5, 185 mph with 200 gust. It also crawled at a slow speed of 1-2 mph with surges from 18-25 ft.  Approximately, 90-95% of the residents completely lost their homes and are now displaced throughout the populated areas of the Bahamas.

The Cay’s were evacuated but nothing could prepare us for the devastation that came with it.  We are in for a long road to rebuilding our home and our community.
