Hurricane Ian: LeeAnn Theisen and Kevin Cochrane
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Amy and I am raising money for two close friends whose lives were turned upside down when Hurricane Ian flooded their Fort Myers Beach home. They stayed with me in south Fort Myers during the hurricane and will continue to stay there until they can return to their home. LeeAnn and Kevin are long-time Fort Myers Beach residents (LeeAnn is a Fort Myers Beach native) and have been married for 30 years. Kevin is a retired Lee County teacher, and LeeAnn, a Lee County P.E. teacher, plans to retire after this school year. When Hurricane Ian approached, they knew they had to leave their home and wondered when and if they'd see it again. The devastating storm surge reached 14 feet inside their modest beach cottage. The flood damage on the ground floor is devastating-like a shaken snow globe. Upstairs, the primary residence had about 2 feet of water during the surge. While they continue to have basic homeowners insurance, and paid for flood/wind/hurricane coverage for 30 years, they couldn't afford the extra coverage when renewing this past year, so there won't be much help from their provider. Funds raised will be spent on replacing the flood-damaged parts of their home: building supplies, cleaning supplies, a generator and gas, tools, appliances, floor coverings, furniture, clothing, and miscellaneous supplies.
UPDATE: Our goal is almost met! THANK YOU DONORS! When I set up the fundraiser, I had no idea what I was doing, and I realize now that although $5000 is very helpful, more will be needed. Please consider helping this family who lost just about everything right when they thought they would be enjoying their retirement years.
