Hurricane Ida Relief — FRSO New Orleans
Hurricane Ida has devastated New Orleans and surrounding parishes. Hundreds of thousands of Louisianans are without power because they could not afford to leave. Many of us lack basic necessities like food, water, medicine, and hygiene products. Black, indigenous, and working class Louisianans suffer most from capitalist-fueled crises like these. Nursing homes and hospitals are crumbling with residents at risk of losing their lives.
FEMA is hanging up on our calls and letting our applications crash. The city of New Orleans and the federal government claim to have the situation under control, but the death toll is only rising and the US's budget cuts for the poor have looted our emergency assistance infrastructure. Corporations are taking advantage by jacking up oil, hotel, and food prices.
We need to build a solution by and for the working class people of this city. We will use our community connections to get needed supplies as quickly and effectively as possible to those who need it most. Money you donate here will be used to buy and deliver:
-food
-tarps
-hygiene products
-first aid materials
and other needed supplies, as available, to New Orleanians. We will donate any funds over and above what we can spend to other local mutual aid groups.
Freedom Road Socialist Organization is a group of communists fighting against imperialism, capitalism, and patriarchy. We are shop floor unionists, campus activists, and community organizers. See our website at frso.org.
Serena Sojic-Borne is a transgender rights organizer with FRSO's New Orleans group. She will spend donations in coordination with the city's mutual aid networks.
Thank you! Love and solidarity.
