Hurricane Otis Acapulco Rescue & Recovery

On October 25th, at 1am, Acapulco was hit by a massive hurricane that erupted into a Category 5 from a tropical storm in a matter of hours and hit Acapulco with a population of nearly 1 million people in the middle of the night with no warning from the media.

Today on October 26th we are just getting our first look at the damage and it is almost complete destruction. The Mexican government is keeping the media out of Acapulco and hardly any help or supplies is coming in. Almost all stores were destroyed in the storm and there is currently not even any food or water and very little power or communication.

I'm Jeff Berwick, from The Dollar Vigilante, and I've been living in Acapulco the past 15 years. My team from Anarchapulco has been working in Acapulco for decades and raised funds and brought people to help for a prior hurricane in Acapulco, have supported the Marsh Children’s Home and their 200 orphans and helped out numerous communities who also received no help from the government or from the outside. Now, we need your help in order to get much needed supplies to the devastated residents of Acapulco.

The team is rushing in supplies and people with their own funds currently, but this is a massive disaster and we need all the help we can get. Currently, most funds received (via my company Vigilante Enterprises LLC) will reimburse our agents on the ground for their out-of-pocket purchases of food, water and supplies from Chilpancingo to be transported in and taken to the most hard hit areas first.

El 25 de octubre, a la 1 de la madrugada, Acapulco fue azotado por un enorme huracán que pasó a ser tormenta tropical de categoría 5 en cuestión de horas y azotó a Acapulco, con una población de casi 1 millón de personas, en medio de la noche sin previo aviso de los medios de comunicación.

Hoy, 26 de octubre, apenas estamos viendo por primera vez los daños y es una destrucción casi completa. El gobierno mexicano mantiene a los medios fuera de Acapulco y apenas llega ayuda o suministros. Casi todas las tiendas fueron destruidas por la tormenta y actualmente no hay ni comida ni agua y muy poca electricidad y comunicación.

Soy Jeff Berwick, de The Dollar Vigilante, y he vivido en Acapulco los últimos 15 años. Mi equipo de Anarchapulco ha estado trabajando en Acapulco durante décadas y recaudó fondos y trajo personas para ayudar durante un huracán anterior en Acapulco, apoyó al Hogar Infantil Marsh y a sus 200 huérfanos y ayudó a numerosas comunidades que tampoco recibieron ayuda del gobierno ni desde fuera. Ahora, necesitamos su ayuda para hacer llegar los suministros que tanto necesitan los residentes devastados de Acapulco.

Actualmente, el equipo está trayendo suministros y personas con sus propios fondos, pero esto es un desastre enorme y necesitamos toda la ayuda que podamos conseguir. Actualmente, la mayoría de los fondos recibidos (a través de mi empresa Vigilante Enterprises LLC) reembolsarán a nuestros agentes en el terreno por sus compras de bolsillo de alimentos, agua y suministros de Chilpancingo para ser transportados y llevados primero a las áreas más afectadas.
