Hurricane Relief Grants for North Carolina Residents

United Way North Carolina, its 211 Helpline, Prezzee, and GoFundMe.org have joined forces to raise funds for families whose lives were turned upside down when Hurricane Helene struck. Donations to this fund will go toward unrestricted cash grants of $200 to help people impacted pay for desperately needed supplies like food, water, clothing, and diapers.

All three organizations have kicked this fund off with a $20K donation each enabling 300 initial grants to be delivered directly into the hands of hurricane survivors. Any additional funds raised will enable more grants to be issued. United Way is identifying verified grant recipients who are personally impacted and in need. GoFundMe.org is hosting this charitable fund and issuing grants with UWNC via Prezzee, which sends e-gift cards to the identified grant recipients.

NC 211 has seen a significant surge in calls from survivors of the storm who have lost everything and need help purchasing their most basic necessities. A recent caller contacted NC 211 expressing her need for assistance in covering her rent and utility bills. In response, the Community Resource Specialist thoroughly explored all available resources to support her and found three options the caller could reach out to. At the end of the call, the caller expressed her gratitude for being provided the comprehensive assistance she needed to get started with overcoming her past due bills.
