Hurricane Racing is a group of 6 innovative engineers and entrepreneurs from Marist College, Athlone who are representing Ireland in the F1 in Schools World Finals in Austin Texas this October. The competition is the most successful STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) competitions of its kind, involving over 20 million students in over 40 countries. Hurricane Racing recently competed in the Irish National Finals in the RDS. At this event we were crowned National Champions and we took home two prestigious awards for fastest car, and best use of ICT and CAD. The skills learnt through the F1 in Schools competition brings together and enhances teamwork, leadership, communication, planning, organisation and innovative skills that are part of the standard school curriculum as well as at the very core of the business world today.
Throughout our school year, and all through the summer, we have developed skills and competency in complex mathematics (and engineering fundamentals) to design and refine our winning F1 car, Blue Lightning. It is hard work like this that we feel will pay off at the World Finals.
When we entered the competition, no one expected us to even make it past the Regional Finals, let alone become National Champions. We want to put Ireland on the map as a leader in STEM by winning the World Finals. We know that we have a good chance to do this and are up for the challenge.
Like any Formula 1 team, you are required to start with nothing and build from the ground up. Though the competition is judged on how fast your car is, the driving force is Irish companies and communities. We need to raise €25,000 to get to the starting grid and perform at a high level. It is a difficult task to raise the funds. With little time left, all support would be much appreciated. We would love if you became a sponsor of our team as we are very dedicated and it would be a shame for Ireland's Team to not make it due to funds. Your sponsorship is crucial to our success and will allow us to represent our country at the World Finals. We hope you will chose to support our team!
