Husky Tri Hards helping to #endDIPG

Help us #ENDDIPG.

In February 2018, The Dun Family received news that no parent should ever have to hear, their 3 year old daughter Josie was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of Brain Cancer known as DIPG.

DIPG - Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma is an aggressive cancer that targets the base of the brain or brain-stem. It is largely seen in children and adolescents. The average survival is about 8 months post-diagnosis. Despite this, no significant progress has been made into treating this devastating disease. Even today, less than 1% of children diagnosed with DIPG will survive 5 years with less than 10% living for longer than 2 years post-diagnosis.

In an effort to raise awareness of this terrible disease in children and much needed research funds for extremely close friends, a group of Maitland Rugby Club Players (aka The Husky Tri Hards) will throw away the rugby boots trading them in for a pair of goggles, a bike and a pair of runners to complete a Half Ironman in Huskisson on February 24th 2019. The race involves a 1.9km ocean swim, followed by a 90km bike ride then to finish off a 21.1km run.

A Bit about Run DIPG

Run DIPG is a not for profit organisation set up to raise much needed funds for family’s affected by DIPG and the continued research into DIPG. Dr. Matt Dun (Josie's Father) is a cancer researcher at the University of Newcastle and HMRI. DIPG has affected him and his family personally. Matt is in a unique position as a cancer researcher to help make a difference not only for his daughter Josie, but countless other children and their families who suffer from this incurable cancer.

The team comprises of 6 ordinary guys who have played rugby against and or alongside Matt in the NHRU Competition:
Luke Cunningham,
Ryan McCormack,
Josh McCormack,
Ryan Vesper,
Adam McCarthy,
Joseph Lavis.

Help us help HMRI and Matt to make a difference and #ENDDIPG.
