Hutch's Financial Conundrum

Hello friends,

This is Hutch Daniels and, as you may know, I have been fighting throat cancer for several months now. My type of cancer is highly curable and my medical team expects me to heal and to continue on with my life of teaching, traveling, and studying. It's been a long haul so far, but the healing is progressing forward (albeit slowly).

I applied for financial benefits through the states Paid Family & Medical Leave program in January and have had a struggle receiving any financial help as of today (March 21). I discovered recently that part of the problem may be associated with scammers who have gotten ahold of my application and are working hard to take my benefits. Even though the would-be thief was convincing on the phone, I did not release any other info to her. With a little bit of detective work, it became quite apparent that she was trying to swindle me.

I texted the state program about my troubles (not receiving funds and the scammer problem), and I received an automatic reply stating that it may take three weeks for the agency to read my email...that is not to help solve the problem, but to read of my concerns.

I'm sending out this GoFundMe page to ask you and others for financial help to cover my living expenses for the coming month of April. Hopefully before April ends I will get the benefits I am qualified to receive.

At times I have wondered what has been worse--the months-long throat pain or the combination of no benefits/having to battle scammers. Dealing with the scammers' plans have been disheartening and frustrating to deal with during this health problem.
