Help Fiona Fight FIP: Support Her Treatment
Donation protected
Four weeks ago, we adopted our sweet 6-month-old cat, Fiona, from the Nevada Humane Society. From the moment we met her, we noticed something wasn’t quite right. After several vet visits with no answers, we finally received a diagnosis on February 11th: Fiona has FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). The news was heartbreaking.
The vet told us she likely wouldn’t survive and suggested euthanasia as an option, along with other possibilities. However, we made the decision to fight for her and do everything we can to give her the best chance at life.
FIP is a viral disease caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirus, which affects a cat's immune system. Fiona has both wet and ocular forms of FIP. The wet form causes fluid buildup in her abdomen and chest, while the ocular form affects her eyes, potentially leading to vision loss. Fiona has already undergone blood work and a thoracocentesis to help manage the fluid buildup in her chest. This disease is typically fatal if left untreated, but recent treatments have shown promise in giving cats like Fiona a chance at recovery. Fiona will need to be on treatment for at least 12 weeks, with the cost of the medication alone totaling around $2,000-$4,000. We are committed to giving her that chance, but we are reaching out for help to cover the cost of her medicine (GS-441524), treatment, and vet bills.
More than anything, we just want our baby to be alright. Fiona has a brother, Leo, who misses her dearly. We can’t imagine our little family without her, and we’re asking for your support so we can fight this together.
